NYC Video Voter Guide

E-mail

For their Primary and General Election of 2005, New York City produced their first ever comprehensive Video Voter Guide (http://www.nyc.gov/html/vac/html/home/home.shtml). The program offered all candidates for Mayor, City Council and Borough President the opportunity to tape short statements about their qualifications and positions on local issues. TV Channel 74 (http://www.nyc.gov/tv ) aired these segments nightly, reaching approximately 1.7 million viewers across the city's five boroughs.

Video Voter worked closely with the nonpartisan NYC Voter Assistance Commission and NYC TV Channel 74 to develop this voter information program and is very proud of the excellent results this alliance achieved. As the biggest city in the nation, and arguably most important in the world, New York's Video Voter Guide set the stage for other cities to follow New York's lead and provide their residents with the tools needed to engage in the democratic process in a more effective and meaningful way.

Video Voter?

Video Voter uses new video formats to inform voters about candidates, ballot measures and election issues, then works with governments, media companies and civic organizations to distribute these views widely over video, broadcast, wired and mobile communications networks.
